Known by God
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1: 5
Being fully known and formed by God is an empowering, comforting, yet frightening thing! The prophets developed, usually after much resistance, this sense of God’s power in their lives. Their faith in God allowed them to speak truth to power, deal with the threat of violence and adversity, and, in the case of Elijah, to endure famine and harsh travel.
This Friday and Saturday, your Vestry is gathering for retreat to pray, build loving relationship, and look at the spiritual gifts of community, leadership, and begin developing spiritual intentionality. We are not going to cross any deserts (I hope, a little cold for that), speak truth to kings, or be cast into dry pits, like Jeremiah. We are going to continue to explore God’s call on our lives, as leaders at St. James, and I hope you will pray for us. Serving on Vestry is a deep commitment to the life of St. James, a gift of ministry that I am so thankful for – in each person who answers the call. Pray for us on Friday and Saturday, in this joyful work of discipleship into which we are all called (not all to Vestry, per se, but all called by the love of God), and take the opportunity to thank those who are serving your parish on Vestry in this 2019 season.
